Oriental Flair Impresses at Couture Fashion Week NY
Designers from all over the world expose their designs in one of the fashion industry’s most prestigious shows, New York’s Couture Fashion Week.
Held at Manhattan’s famous Waldorf Astoria, Couture Fashion Week 2009 was nothing short of impressive.
The highlight, a series of couture and luxury fashion shows – with everything from contemporary designs to those with a more vintage air.
Delicate designs and flawless drapery, infused with feminine lines.
The stunning gowns ricochet down the catwalk, setting the scene for things to come.
Designers’ choice of fabrics varied greatly, from natural fibers to synthetics and even translucent material.
On closer inspection, one can see the intricate sophisticated hand designs serving to accentuate the garments.
Jorge Diep, a well-known designer from the Dominican Republic once again brought his designs to the show.
His gowns have featured at Miss Universe and Miss World for over a decade, picking up numerous awards.
And his intricate designs, meticulously thought out, right down to sparkling hand jewelry.
[Laura Summercamp, Model]:
“And this style is very elegant, very sophisticated, with all the jewelry that we have in our hair, and on the hands. It’s just great.”
And the audience also enjoyed the oriental flair.
[Isabella Kleut, Stylist from Australia]:
“It’s more couture. And it’s more unique.”
And NTD’s very own Han couture was very well received. With designs drawing inspiration from China’s Tang, Song and Ming dynasties. Blending virtuous tradition and craftsmanship to inspire the modern world.
[Violet Collins, Journalist]:
“It just felt like I was being taken back in time. Almost. To a different time, a different place. And it was really calm and really relaxing. It was beautiful to watch those clothes. I mean I would love to be able to wear something like that. Who wouldn’t right. I mean all the silks. Really beautiful.”
[Nana Boateng, Los Angeles-Based Designer]:
“Fashion Week is very interesting. It derives a lot from Europe and also in to America where it brings a lot of foreign as well as domestic designers to showcase their views on fashion and really exhibit it here at Fashion Week in New York.”
[Isabella Kleut, Stylist for Celebrities in Australia]:
“How they use the jewels. How they use cuts, imagination. It’s absolutely mind blowing.”
Ricio Penuelas, NTD, New York.
