Hong Kong Anticipates Premier of Shen Yun Performing Arts

The New York-based classical Chinese dance company Shen Yun Performing Arts will hold its first show in Hong Kong in January 2010.

Tickets for the seven performances went on sale on December 2, and just two weeks later, most have already been snatched up.

“The mainland Chinese are very unique, they go straight for the $900 HKD tickets. If there are no $900 HKD available, they’ll go for the $700 HKD tickets.”

Featuring classical Chinese dance and music, the New York based Shen Yun Performing Arts now boasts three dance companies.

The Flemish Economic Representative of the Belgian Consulate in Hong Kong saw Shen Yun two years ago in another city.

“I have never seen a performance like this before. Not only was it beautiful, after watching it you are made to think, you should think about what you can do as a person, and what assistance you can offer. I feel that it added this realm into the performance.”

Hong Kong Tycoon Lei Gwong-lam says the Hong Kong public is blessed to see Shen Yun.

“Shen Yun is divine in its techniques, and its essence is spiritual, it has the essence of the divine, something belonging to the Chinese culture. It’s a very multifaceted art. There’s lighting, projector, and storytelling all melding together into the realm of cultural beauty.

Hon Saan-bik is the Chairperson of the Literature Division of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. He says the Hong Kong public has shown a strong interest in supporting Shen Yun.

Shen Yun will begin its 2009–2010 season this coming weekend in Augusta, Georgia. It’s the first stop on a world tour that will span 5 continents.
