Daughter of Missing Chinese Rights Lawyer Seeks U.S. Help

The daughter of Chinese human rights lawyer Gao Zhizheng is calling on U.S. President Barack Obama to raise her father’s plight with Chinese leader Hu Jintao at the Group of 20 Summit next month.
17-year-old Grace Geng now lives in the United States with her mother and brother, but her father remains in China—the past 5 years in and out of detention. He has not been heard from for 6 months.
In an article published on Thursday in the Wall Street Journal, Geng said she was beaten by Chinese police as a 12-year-old after her father began fearlessly speaking out for the rights of China’s most vulnerable people.
When he returned home to serve a suspended sentence in 2006 for subversion, she said his skin had turned black and it was clear he had been tortured.
Geng wrote, „President Obama, as the father of 2 girls yourself, please ask President Hu to tell this daughter where her father is.“
